Stevia is a natural sugar substitute derived from the Stevia plant, an herb that was used as a sweetener by indigenous peoples in Paraquay and Brazil more than 1,500 years ago.
Stevia sweetener contains no calories or sugars and has a glycemic index of zero.
This makes it an ideal sugar substitute and suitable for people with diabetes. It is a natural alternative to sugar and artificial sweeteners, such as aspartame and sucralose.
The Stevia Plant

Stevia is a plant with a number of very sweet stevioglycosides in the leaves, of which stevioside and rebaudioside A are the most important.

The stevia leaf is 15 to 20 times sweeter than sugar and the steviol glycosides extracted from the leaf are about 100 to 480 times sweeter than sugar. You only need small amounts of it to make tasty dishes or drinks.

Curious how you can apply Greensweet Stevia?

Greensweet Stevia is 100% pure and certified stevia (ISO 22000). It can be used as a substitute for sugar and artificial sweeteners in, among other things, carbonated drinks, shakes and smoothies, desserts, jams, cakes and biscuits, coffee and tea, milk and water!

Greensweet liquid stevia

Add a few drops of liquid Greensweet stevia strawberry, raspberry, grape or lemon to your glass of water and enjoy a delicious lemonade! Without sugar, calories, problems with your blood sugar or tooth decay. Or make delicious calorie-free chocolate milk by adding a few drops of Greensweet liquid stevia chocolate to milk. Enjoy responsibly!

One flavor of liquid stevia is more suitable for baking than another.

Greensweet stevia sells about 12 different flavors in drop form. The fruit flavors, for example, have much less sweet power than caramel, or vanilla and chocolate. Most fruit flavors are therefore less suitable for baking. That is to say: the fruit flavors do not come out very well. Baked goods are sweetened more than enough. Flavors that are ideal for baking are:

  • chocolate
  • caramel
  • vanilla
  • coconut
  • peach
  • mango
  • blueberry

These do give a good representation of the relevant flavors in a baking. The other flavors are therefore also excellent for baking, but are somewhat flatter in terms of taste.

When someone asks me how the proportions are, I always say to “sweeten” to taste. What do I mean by this? Well, for starters, everyone's sweet taste needs are different. To discover your own dosage, it is best to sweeten everything to taste. Once you know how far you like it sweet, you can implement this in everything from now on. You get to know the sweetness of your products as if it were. First start with a few drops and see how you like the taste. Then you can always add drops if you would like it sweeter.

Erythritol

Greensweet Stevia has a wide range of sweeteners, not only based on Stevia but also on Erythitol.

Erythritol is a natural sweetener and is found naturally in fruits, vegetables and fermented foods such as cheese, wine and soy sauce. Erythritol was discovered in 1848 by the Scottish chemist John Stenhouse.

Erythritol belongs to the family of sugar alcohols, also known as polyols. Polyols are naturally found in vegetables, fruits and fermented foods.

Erythritol is the only 100% natural polyol and is obtained through natural fermentation of glucose. Erythritol is also the only polyol that has no calories.

The fact that erythritol contains no calories and that it is a 100% natural sweetener is the reason that Greensweet also has this sweetener in its range.

Is Erythritol Healthy?

Erythritol has a slightly lower sweetening power than table sugar (60-80%), but contains no calories and has no effect on your blood sugar level. This makes erythritol an ideal sugar substitute for anyone who wants to eat less sugar, who cannot tolerate sugar, such as diabetics, or who follows a keto or low-carbohydrate diet.

In addition, erythritol is also tooth-friendly, just like stevia. The sweetener cannot be metabolized by the bacteria in the mouth. Unlike table sugar, erythritol does not contribute to tooth decay.

All these Greensweet products are GMO free, of the highest quality and remain stable up to 200 degrees.

But preferably keep the oven temperature between 160 and 185 degrees for the optimal taste!

Greensweet Brown

Greensweet Brown bakes like normal brown sugar and has a fine structure. Greensweet Brown has 95% fewer calories than normal sugar and is therefore much healthier to use in your daily food and drinks.

Greensweet stevia's brown sugar is made from erythritol, a hint of pure steviol glycosides and molasses. Molasses is a type of sugar. It is made from the sugar beet / cane boil after the crystallized sugar has been removed. A viscous liquid remains.

The amounts of molasses in the Brown from greensweet is 5 grams per 100 grams. These are pure free sugars. The rest consists of polyols (93.5%) that are not absorbed into the body. In other words, the Brown is not 100% sugar free. However, it does not contain very many free sugars, which makes it a much better alternative to regular brown caster sugars.

People with diabetes can also use this brown sugar substitute, with the necessary caution, because free sugars are present, which can have some influence on the blood sugar level. It is 100% vegan.

Greensweet Syrup Gold

Greensweet Syrup Gold is ideal in the kitchen as a replacement for honey and / or syrup. This delicious syrup is made from a vegetable fiber (isomalto oligosaccharide) so that the syrup contains far fewer calories and still tastes delicious. The fibers are vegetable components and are officially classified as carbohydrates. So should you avoid fiber if you are on a low-carb diet? Absolutely not! These fibers are very good for your body.

They are processed differently by your body than normal carbohydrates. Normal carbohydrates are absorbed by your body, digested and enter your blood as glucose. These fibers, on the other hand, are not converted as glucose, but are retained. They are therefore not (or partially) digested.

The Syrup is gluten free. The Greensweet Syrup Gold contains no less than 70 g (per 100 g) of dietary fiber, an excellent choice .. die Gold.

Facts:

HEALTH

Greensweet stevia sweetener is ideal for everyone, including weight-watchers, people with diabetes and anyone who wants to use a natural sweetener. Our products also do not contain chemicals, solvents or enzymes at any stage of extraction and purification.

Studies have also shown that stevia usually lowers elevated blood pressure, but it does not affect normal blood pressure. It also inhibits the growth and multiplication of certain bacteria and other infectious organisms, including those that cause tooth decay and gum disease. Stevia is an exceptional aid in weight loss and weight management as it contains no calories and reduces the need for sweets and fatty foods.

Researchers at KU Leuven have discovered that stevia stimulates a protein that is essential for our taste perception and for the release of insulin after meals. These results, based on basic research, offer perspectives for new treatments for diabetes.

Stevia is very popular as a low-calorie sugar substitute. Moreover, the sweetener is said to have a beneficial effect on blood sugar levels, although until now no one knew exactly why. Koenraad Philippaert and Rudi Vennekens of the Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine at KU Leuven have now changed this. They did this in collaboration with colleagues from Leuven and colleagues from Université catholique de Louvain and University of Oxford.

Fundamental research

“Our experiments have shown that the active components of stevia extract enhance the action of the ion channel TRPM5,” explains Dr. Philippaert. “An ion channel is a protein that serves as a kind of microscopic sluice through which tiny particles enter and exit the cell. These channels are at the basis of many processes in the body. ”

Ion channel TRPM5

“TRPM5 is first and foremost essential for the taste perception of sweet, bitter and umami on the tongue,” continues Philippaert. “This taste sensation is further enhanced by the stevia component steviol, which stimulates TRPM5. That explains the enormously sweet taste of stevia and also the bitter aftertaste that lingers in the mouth for a while. ”

Effect on pancreas

In addition, TRPM5 also ensures that the pancreas secretes enough insulin, for example after a meal. This prevents abnormally high blood levels and the development of type 2 diabetes. This condition can develop when the pancreas releases too little insulin, often under the influence of an unhealthy lifestyle.

Protection against diabetes 2

"Mice that eat a lot of fat for a long time eventually develop diabetes," explains Professor Vennekens. “But that is not the case for mice that also receive a daily dose of stevia ingredients: they are protected against diabetes. This beneficial effect was not seen in mice without TRPM5. This indicates that the protection against abnormally high blood values and diabetes is due to the stimulation of TRPM5 with stevia ingredients. ”

Product development perspectives

The study opens up perspectives for the development of new treatments to control and possibly prevent diabetes. "But we must not go too fast," warns Philippaert. "This is fundamental research and we still have a long way to go before we can talk about new diabetes treatments. For example, the doses of stevioside that the mice received are a lot higher than the amounts in soft drinks and other foods. Further research should reveal whether our findings also apply to humans. So new medicines are certainly not for tomorrow. ”

The study was published in Nature Communications.

Pay attention!

Many suppliers add Isomalt (= artificial sweetener!) Or Maltodextrin to their Stevia products. These are artificial sweeteners that ensure that your stevia product contains carbohydrates (and therefore calories!). Greensweet Stevia products are purely natural. Only pure Stevia with a high percentage of stevioglycosides (98%) without the addition of artificial sweeteners.
